LOS ANGELES — Occidental fell to Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 at W.C. Patterson Field at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday. Before the game, women's soccer honored their seniors

Despite a solid defensive effort with seven saves from the Occidental goalkeeper, a first-half goal by Pomona-Pitzer proved decisive. Occidental managed 14 shots, with two on target, but could not find the back of the net.
The first half began with
Melanie Rodriguez in goal for Occidental, who was immediately tested by Pomona-Pitzer's offense. Rodriguez successfully saved early attempts, including shots from Imogen Jenkyn and Brooke Bailey. Despite this strong defensive start, Pomona-Pitzer broke through in the 20th minute with a goal by Jenkyn, assisted by Bailey and Sabina Peterson Rajalingam.
Occidental responded by increasing offensive pressure with several attempts from
Kara Ovenell,
Mia Steadman, and
Jordyn Tribus, though none found the back of the net.
Zakrie Smith also contributed with a shot late in the half. Despite these efforts, Occidental went into halftime trailing 1-0.
The second half commenced as Occidental sought to overturn the deficit from the first half. In the early stages, Occidental's defense held firm, with Rodriguez making several crucial saves, including a shot from Hannah Hong in the 59th minute and another from Jenkyn in the 62nd minute.
Occidental increased offensive pressure, with
Sophia Weigt and
Alessia Sacchi both taking shots, though they failed to find the net. As the half progressed,
Allison Bello and Steadman also tested the Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper but were denied. Despite persistent offensive efforts, Occidental could not alter the scoreboard, and the game concluded with a 1-0 score in favor of Pomona-Pitzer.

In their next game, Occidental will travel to Whittier, CA, to face Whittier College on October 29. The match is set for 4 p.m. as Occidental looks to take on their local rival on the road.
