Women's Volleyball falls at No. 17 Claremont-M-S

Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. — No. 17 Claremont-M-S (9-5, 3-2 SCIAC) defeated Occidental (3-9, 1-3 SCIAC) in straight sets at Roberts Pavilion on Saturday, securing a 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 victory.

Occidental opened the first set with Sloane Shoop delivering a service ace. Ariana Carranza and Anna Curtis-Revelle followed with key kills, maintaining a balance in scoring with the Athenas. Kendall Taylor added an ace in the first, keeping it close through the first 13 points, 7-6. The Athenas pulled away, but the Tigers battled, falling 25-18.

Occidental opened the second set with contributions from Corinne Van Haeren, who registered multiple kills assisted by Lila Payne, keeping the score competitive early on. However, CMS surged ahead with a string of service aces by Brooke McKee, forcing the Tigers to take a timeout with the score at 8-5 in favor of CMS.

Occidental fought back, narrowing the gap to 14-13 with kills from Channell and Katelyn Cajigas, both facilitated by solid setups from Taylor. Despite this rally, CMS capitalized on Occidental errors and extended its lead with timely kills, prompting another timeout at 20-17.

The set concluded with CMS maintaining their momentum, despite a late kill from Curtis-Revelle. The Athenas secured the set 25-19, closing with a kill from Shae Delany.

Van Haeren, who led the Tigers with nine kills on the night, opened the third with a kill. But it was all Athenas in the frame, cruising to a 10-point set victory, clinching the sweep.
