LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's soccer picked up a 2-0 win over Chapman in the first round of the SCIAC Tournament on Monday, November 3 behind a dominant performance in all aspects of the game.

Mia Merkelbach got the scoring started early with a header goal of assists from
Alessia Sacchi and
Keira Dunlop. Dunlop with a quick touch to Sacchi with a perfect cross into the goal.

Merkelbach scored her third goal of the season and first since September 24.

Melanie Rodriguez continued her dominance on the defensive end, picking up key saves in the first half. Off a shot from the right side of the box, Rodriguez dove from left to right and snagged the save.

In the second half the Tigers added insurance. After a foul just outside of the box,
Sophia Weigt took a free kick and nailed it, the shot from just outside of the box soared into the back of the net for a Tiger goal.

Oxy held on with strong play in the midfield and on the defensive end.

With the victory, the Tigers move on to the SCIAC semifinals for the first time since 2018. They'll take on Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont on Wednesday, November 5.
