Men's hoops routs La Verne, remains unbeaten


LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental (5-0, 1-0 SCIAC) secured a decisive 92-52 victory over the University of La Verne (2-6, 0-2 SCIAC) on Saturday at Rush Gymnasium. The Tigers dominated in the paint, contributing 54 points to the total score, while also collecting 56 rebounds.

With the victory, the Tigers remain as one of 16 teams in the nation without a loss. Oxy and Claremont-M-S are the only unbeaten teams in the SCIAC.

Occidental opened the game with a strong offensive performance, establishing an early lead with consistent scoring in the paint. Nicky Clotfelter and Alex McCleery Brown contributed key baskets and assists, setting the pace for the home team. Despite the Leopards' attempts to close the gap, including a late 3-pointer by Jackson Gray, the Tigers maintained control. The half concluded with Occidental leading 45–34.

Occidental pulled away decisively in the second half, highlighted by a 15–0 run midway through the half. McCleery Brown led the surge with consistent scoring in the paint, and Nasir Luna contributed with several assists. By controlling the boards with a 31–18 rebounding advantage, the Tigers extended their lead. The game concluded with a commanding 92–52 victory for Occidental.

McCleery Brown led the team with 15 points and secured eight rebounds, showcasing his efficiency with seven field goals made out of nine attempts. Clotfelter contributed significantly by scoring 16 points, including one successful 3-pointer, while also recording two assists. Luna facilitated the offense with nine assists and added 13 points to his performance. Peter Noble made an impact from beyond the arc, converting three out of six 3-point attempts to finish with 11 points.

The Tigers are back in action on the road at La Sierra on December 17.
