LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Softball hosted the CMS Athenas on Friday afternoon in a game that was rained out on its originally scheduled date of 2/14.
The Athenas got on the board early with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Zada Day-Adams would induce a fly out to left center field to escape a bases loaded jam in the 1st.
The Tigers' defense was strong in this game with highlights in the 2nd inning. Philycia Pedrsoa made a nice pick on a hard hit ball to 3rd base and fired over to 1st for the out.
For the 2nd out of the 2nd inning ALysha Wagner made a beautiful over the shoulder catch on a pop fly to short left field. Day-Adams had a stretch of retiring 6 straight Athenas between the 2nd and 3rd innings.
Oxy's bats were slow to get started in this one, but they woke up in the 6th inning with a lead off single up the middle from Wagner that was followed by a single to left center by Anna Kim. Wagner made it to 3rd on the play, and Kim advanced to 2nd on the throw to 3rd.
With 2 outs in the inning, Sophia Siu stepped up to bat with Wagner and Kim still in scoring position and delivered a clutch game-tying 2 RBI single to right field on a sinking line drive.
The Athenas would respond with a big solo home run in the top of the 7th that would hold as the game-winning run as CMS won by a score of 3-2.
Day-Adams pitched the entire game for Oxy, allowing only 2 earned runs and 5 hits while striking out 1 over 7 innings.
Jordan Lebsock and Sam Palacio each had one hit in the game. Alysha Wagner had a hit, a walk, and stole a base.
Oxy will be back in action on Tuesday March 4th against Susquehanna University in a doubleheader at Bell Field at 12:00 and 2:00pm
