LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Oxy softball played host to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Panthers on Friday afternoon for a twin bill.
GAME 1
The Panthers jumped out to a lead in the first inning with an RBI single, but Oxy answered right back in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers got on the board when Evelyn Lorch hit an RBI single that scored Anna Kim, but the inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Bella Harding that extended the Oxy lead to 4-1.
UP Bradford was able to respond right back in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring three runs to tie the game at 4. The game would remain tied until the top of the 4th inning when the Panthers scored a run on a play where the Tigers threw out a runner attempting to steal second which allowed a runner on third to score.
In the bottom of the 5th, Phyilycia Pedrosa got a rally started with a walk and was followed up by hits from Jordan Lebsock and Ava Quezada to load the bases. Alysha Wagner would hit an RBI fielder's choice ground ball to shortstop to tie the game at 5.
Bradford would score the game-winning run in the top of the 7th inning on a sacrifice fly to right field, and Oxy would lose by a score of 6-5.
Sophia Siu was 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and Philycia Pedrosa also had two hits in the game. Zada Day-Adams pitched 7 innings and struck out 3.
GAME 2
The Panthers would put up a three spot in the 1st inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead in Game 2, a game in which they were the home team despite being at Bell Field.
In the top of the 2nd, Mia Mark would have an RBI single to right field to score Evelyn Lorch and cut the lead down to two runs. UP Bradford would score three more runs in their half of the 2nd to lead 6-1.
Oxy was ready to rally however, and in the 3rd inning with Alysha Wagner on base Anna Kim hit her first home run of her collegiate career to cut the Panther lead in half and make it 6-3. Evelyn Lorch added on with a single that scored Sophia Siu and cut the lead down to only 2 runs.
Bradford tacked on a run in both the 4th and 5th innings and led 8-4, but Oxy scored three runs in the 6th inning thanks to an RBI single from both Kim and Lorch as well as a sacrifice fly form Siu, and the Tigers were only down 8-7.
The Panthers scored two insurance runs in their half of the 6th and would hold onto a 10-7 win in game two of the doubleheader. The Tigers will be back in action on Sunday afternoon for another doubleheader against the Manhattanville University Valiants at Bell Field at 12pm and 2pm.
