LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Women's water polo hosted the CMS Athenas in a SCIAC matchup on Saturday morning in De Mandel Aquatics Center.
The Athenas got off to a hot start and led the game 6-0 after one period of play. The Tigers' defense would only allow a single goal in the 2nd period and score just before halftime on a shot from Tori Carlson that found the back of the net and made the score 7-1 headed into the half.
CMS went on a 4-0 coming out of the halftime break, but Oxy would score a goal towards the end of the 3rd period on a nice shot from Koko Butcher thanks to an assist from Hannah Lee.
The Athenas held the Tigers scoreless in the game after the goal from Butcher and would go on to win by a score of 19-3.
Schuyler Simon-Thomas and Emma Merrill each had two steals in the game and goalkeeper Alex Moye had 4 steals and 5 saves in goal.
Moye also came up to about the halfway point of the pool with three minutes left in the game and fired a shot into the lower right portion of the goal for Oxy's 3rd goal of the game.
This is the Tigers first loss in SCIAC play and they are now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC. Women's water polo will play next on Monday March 10th at 10:00am at De Mandel Aquatics Center against the Virginia Military Institute.
