Three Tigers Qualify for Nationals

Three track and field athletes qualified to compete at DIII National Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Three Occidental track and field student-athletes have qualified to compete in the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Geneva, OH from May 22nd-24th. 

Jenna LeNay, Shane Kawakami-Williams and Renn Stearns have all been selected to compete in Ohio with their impressive performances in the 2025 season.

LeNay is coming off of qualifying to compete in the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships in November 2024, an event she also competed in as a sophomore in 2023. 

The junior distance runner qualified for the 2025 Track and Field Championships in the 10,000m run, ranking 21st in the nation with her 35:43.36 time from the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic meet on March 8th.

Kawakami-Williams earned his spot in Geneva with his recent performance at the APU Franson Last Chance meet on May 8th that put him at the top of the Oxy record books in the 100m dash.

The sophomore ranks tied for 20th in the nation with his 10.46 time in the event. It is his first time qualifying for the National Championships.

Stearns punched his ticket to Ohio with his performance in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 Oxy Invitational. The senior's qualifying time of 8:57.51 sits at 20th in the nation heading into next week's championships.
