SAN DIMAS, Calif. — Life Pacific secured a four-set victory over Occidental on Saturday afternoon, winning 25-23, 19-25, 27-25, 25-20.
The first set opened with Occidental gaining an early edge through decisive kills by
Ariana Carranza and
Anna Curtis-Revelle, taking a 3-1 lead. Despite this strong start, Life Pacific capitalized on several errors and a service ace to rally back to a 6-3 advantage. The Tigers responded by using strategic timeouts and a series of impactful plays from
Jasmine Shum and Carranza to narrow the gap. The set remained tightly contested, with the visitors closing within one point at 22-21 after an impressive service ace by
Eyleen Sanchez, but Life Pacific ultimately sealed the set 25-23 with a final kill by Kendal Collins.
The second set began with Carranza securing the first point for the visitors with a kill, setting the tone for a strong performance. A critical moment unfolded when the Tigers capitalized on a series of Life Pacific errors, including an attack error and a block by Curtis-Revelle and
Corinne Van Haeren, extending their lead to 6-2. Despite a timeout called by Life Pacific at 6-2, the Tigers maintained momentum, with Shum contributing significantly with timely kills and a service ace. The visitors continued to press their advantage, with
Anna Schubert and Carranza closing out the set with decisive kills, achieving a 25-19 win.
In a tense third set, the Tigers opened with strong momentum, capitalizing on an attack error by Jadyn Armstrong to take an early 1-0 lead. Sanchez contributed significantly with a service ace and a series of effective serves that sustained the lead at 6-1. Despite Life Pacific rallying back to level the score at 13-13, a timeout by the Tigers at this critical juncture helped regain composure, leading to a kill by Shum to regain a narrow 14-13 advantage. The set remained tightly contested, with Life Pacific ultimately edging out Occidental 27-25, despite notable performances from
Lila Payne and Carranza, who combined for key plays throughout the set.
The fourth set began with a strong start for the visitors as Curtis-Revelle delivered an early kill, putting the team on the board. Schubert's back-to-back service aces extended Occidental's lead to 4-1, showcasing their serving strength. Despite maintaining a slim lead throughout much of the set, a critical timeout called by the Tigers at 14-15 sought to halt Life Pacific's momentum. However, a series of service aces by Kate Smith in the final stretch led Life Pacific to a 25-20 victory, despite noteworthy performances from
Kendall Taylor who contributed several key assists.
