REDLANDS, Calif. — Occidental (5-10-1, 5-6-1 SCIAC) won 3-0 over Redlands (4-12-0, 3-8-0 SCIAC) on Saturday at Farquhar Field. Occidental withstood nine Redlands attacking actions from 47:06 to 58:45 without conceding, part of a shutout that included eight saves. Occidental finished with 14 shots, including seven in each half, and scored once before halftime before adding two more goals after the break.
Diana Reyes-Sanchez put Occidental in front at 10:13, finishing a rebound after
Jordyn Tribus had a shot saved from the right side of the box to give Occidental a 1-0 lead. Earlier,
Mia Steadman forced Nicole Immoos into a save in the third minute, and Occidental kept generating looks after the goal, including a saved shot from
Sophia Weigt at 15:26. Redlands pressed during the middle stretch, but
Melanie Rodriguez made saves on Maddie Wallner and Brooke Ramirez after an earlier stop on Madeline Tetens to keep Occidental in front. Occidental added late pressure with a Tribus corner in the 41st minute that led to a Weigt header over the bar, and Occidental took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Occidental added two goals after halftime and held Redlands scoreless in the second half to close out a 3-0 win. Redlands opened the half with a six-shot, three-corner stretch from 47:06 to 58:45, but Rodriguez made four saves during that pressure while Occidental also got early looks from
Alessia Sacchi and
Bella Calemine. Occidental added on at 60:40 when Reyes-Sanchez scored from
Mia Steadman's assist, cutting past a defender and finding the bottom-left corner to make it 2-0. After Tribus took corners at 64:13, 70:16, 74:44 and 76:21,
Maile Fukushima scored off
Samantha An's assist at 79:05, dribbling into the box and shooting across the net to the right corner for a 3-0 lead. Rodriguez made one more save in the 88th minute, and Occidental saw out the final minutes with the 3-0 result.
