LOS ANGELES — Occidental College secured a 12-9 victory over the University of La Verne on Wednesday night at De Mandel Aquatics Center. The Tigers capitalized on three power-play goals to edge past their conference opponent.
Occidental started strong in the first quarter with
Isabella Wilde scoring two goals, establishing a 2-0 lead. La Verne responded with consecutive goals, including a penalty shot by Ally Ratto, leveling the score at 2-2.
The Tigers then pulled ahead with a 4-0 run, highlighted by
Hannah Lee's goal in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 6-2. The Leopards narrowed the gap with a series of goals, including Brooklyn Young's two goals in the third quarter, bringing the score to 9-8.
In the final quarter, Occidental secured the victory as
Victoria Duncan scored twice, and Wilde added another goal, leading to a 12-9 win. The Tigers outshot La Verne 31-23 and capitalized on their power-play chances.
Hannah Lee led the scoring with three goals and added an assist, complementing her offensive output with two steals. Wilde matched Lee's performance with three goals and an assist, while also contributing two steals.
Duncan was effective in front of the net, scoring three times on six attempts. In addition to her offensive contributions,
Mia Colabianchi stood out with two sprint wins and a steal.
The Tigers have now won consecutive games to begin SCIAC play and are 2-7 overall on the season. Their next matchup will come on the road against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00AM.
