Softball drops both games of doubleheader to Williams

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental fell 8-0 and 4-3 to Williams on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader.

In game one, the Tigers managed only one hit in the game while Williams capitalized with a six-run third inning.

Williams took an early lead in the first inning when Miya Fujimoto scored on a sacrifice fly by Sidney Miller. Occidental was unable to respond in the bottom of the inning, leaving the score at 1-0 in favor of Williams after the first.

The third inning was pivotal as Williams extended its lead significantly. Katie Blanch scored on a single by Dani Jackman, followed by Justine Dunaway scoring on a single from Lauren Davis. Aprill Medrano hit a double down the left field line, driving in two more runs. A ground out and a single by Miller brought in two additional runs, making it a six-run inning for Williams. The Tigers remained scoreless, bringing the tally to 7-0 after three innings.

In the fifth inning, Williams added one more run when a pinch runner scored on a single by Ayane Rokugawa. Occidental was unable to produce any runs, culminating in an 8-0 victory for the Ephs. Final score: Williams 8, Tigers 0.

Anna Kim contributed both offensively and defensively, recording one hit and one stolen base while collecting three putouts in center field. Alysha Wagner made her presence felt in the infield with one assist from the shortstop position. Sophia Siu was active at second base, tallying two assists and two putouts. Lehua Acoba had a challenging outing on the mound, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings pitched.

In game two, Occidental took a 3–1 lead after four innings, but Williams scored three unanswered runs, including two in the seventh inning, to secure the win.

Williams took an early lead in the first inning when Justine Dunaway doubled and scored on a single by Haley Barrett. Occidental was unable to score in its half of the inning, leaving the score at 1–0 in favor of Williams after the first inning.

In the third inning, Occidental tied the game. Alysha Wagner singled, and Anna Kim followed with another single. Jordan Lebsock then singled to left field, scoring Wagner and leveling the score at 1–1.

Occidental gained momentum in the fourth inning. Sam Palacio singled and advanced on a walk to Amarie Bolen. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, with Palacio scoring on another wild pitch. Molly Houtkooper then singled, driving in Bolen. This gave Occidental a 3–1 lead after four innings.

The game remained 3–1 until the seventh inning when Williams rallied. Dani Jackman tripled, bringing in two runs and tying the game at 3–3.

Williams secured the win in the eighth inning. Miya Fujimoto, placed on second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a double by Barrett. Occidental could not respond in its half, ending the game with a final score of Williams 4, Occidental 3.

Alysha Wagner recorded five assists, showcasing her effectiveness at shortstop. Anna Kim reached base three times, drawing two walks and collecting a hit. Jordan Lebsock contributed an RBI, driving in a run with her only hit of the game. Sam Palacio added two hits and scored a run, demonstrating her ability to reach base and create scoring opportunities.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 3rd to take on the Whittier College Poets at Bell Field at 3pm.
