LOS ANGELES — The Occidental Tigers took on the Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties on Thursday afternoon.
Occidental fell 4-3 to Gust. Adolphus in a closely contested first game in a mid-week doubleheader at Bell Field on Thursday. Occidental managed to score three runs in the fourth inning but was unable to overcome Gustavus Adolphus's (wo-run sixth inning.
Occidental faced off against Gustavus Adolphus, with the game remaining scoreless through the first two innings. In the third inning, Gustavus Adolphus took the lead with Olivia Guggenberger scoring on a single by Caitlin Olafsson, making it 1-0.
The fourth inning saw Occidental's offense come alive.
Jordan Lebsock singled and advanced on hits by
Alysha Wagner and a walk to
Kadence Bernard.
Sam Palacio then walked to bring in Lebsock, and
Riko Hibino followed with a single that drove in Wagner and Bernard, putting Occidental ahead 3-2 by the end of the inning.
In the sixth inning, Gustavus Adolphus regained momentum. Macy Lembke scored on a single by Taylor Katzenmeyer, and Breck Carlson crossed home on a fielder's choice, giving Gustavus Adolphus a 4-3 lead.
Occidental was unable to generate further scoring opportunities in the final inning, resulting in a final score of 4-3 in favor of Gustavus Adolphus.
Riko Hibino recorded a hit and an RBI in a bases-loaded situation, contributing to the team's offense.
Lehua Acoba pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out three batters while allowing four earned runs.
Alysha Wagner added one hit and scored a run, showcasing her ability to get on base and contribute to the scoring.
Jordan Lebsock registered one hit and scored a run, providing consistency from the batter's box.
The Tigers fell in game two on the day with a final score of 4-2 on. Occidental scored both of its runs in the first inning but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Occidental started strong in the first inning, with
Anna Kim singling through the left side and later scoring on a single by
Jacynda Lindsay.
Rachel Rotunno added another run, scoring on a wild pitch. The Tigers led 2-1 at the end of the first inning.
The fourth inning saw Gustavus Adolphus take the lead as Caitlin Olafsson hit a double to left center, driving in three runs. Occidental trailed 4-2 by the end of the fourth inning.
Despite efforts in the remaining innings, the Tigers were unable to add any more runs. Gustavus Adolphus maintained its lead, concluding the game with a final score of 4-2 in their favor.
Anna Kim scored one run and recorded one hit, while also drawing a walk and stealing a base. Lindsay pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs over seven innings with five strikeouts.
Alysha Wagner added a hit and reached base after being hit by a pitch. Rotunno scored one run despite not recording a hit, benefiting from reaching base on a fielding choice and an error.
Occidental will be heading on their Hawaii Spring Break Trip next week, playing 8 games from March 9th-March 13th.
