LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Occidental (4-21, 1-9) narrowly fell 2-1 to Chapman (22-7, 7-2) at Bell Field on Friday. Chapman managed to score the decisive run in the sixth inning, overcoming Occidental's late push in the game.
Chapman took an early lead in the third inning when Kloe Lobato hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Emily Tome to score. This left the score at 1-0 in favor of Chapman through the third inning.
In the sixth inning, Chapman extended its lead. Brooke Wiegand reached first on a fielding error, eventually scoring on a throwing error by the shortstop, making the score 2-0.
Occidental responded in the bottom of the sixth. After
Rachel Rotunno singled,
Molly Houtkooper pinch ran and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Alysha Wagner.
Anna Kim then singled to shortstop, driving in Houtkooper for Occidental's first run of the game, bringing the score to 2-1.
Despite Occidental's efforts in the seventh inning, Chapman held on to its lead. The game concluded with a final score of Chapman 2, Occidental 1.
Anna Kim stole two bases and contributed two hits with one RBI.
Riko Hibino added a hit despite striking out twice. Rotunno recorded a hit as a pinch hitter.
Jacynda Lindsay pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out four batters.
Occidental has a record of 4-21 and 1-9 in the conference. Chapman has a record of 22-7 and 7-2 in the conference.
