LOS ANGELES — Occidental fell to Pomona-Pitzer in both games of a doubleheader with a final score of 2-0 in game one and 7-4 in game two at Bell Field on Saturday.
In game one, Pomona-Pitzer took an early lead against Occidental in the first inning. Sadie Huryn and Kylie Liu both singled, setting the stage for Audrey Reimers and Claire Sefkow, who each delivered RBI singles, bringing in two runs. Pomona-Pitzer led 2-0 after the first inning.
Occidental's defense managed to hold Pomona-Pitzer scoreless from the second inning onward, with
Sam Alfaro's pitching contributing significantly by allowing only five hits and striking out four over 6 innings. Despite this defensive effort, Occidental's offense was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Alysha Wagner was a bright spot for Occidental, securing two hits, including a double in the sixth inning, and successfully stealing a base in the fourth inning. However, the team was unable to convert these moments into runs.
The game concluded with Pomona-Pitzer securing a 2-0 victory over Occidental, maintaining its lead from the first inning throughout the game.
Alysha Wagner contributed offensively with two hits, including a double, and added a stolen base in the game.
Sam Alfaro pitched 6 innings, allowing five hits while striking out four batters.
Lehua Acoba pitched 1 inning, conceding two earned runs on four hits.

In game two, the Sagehens scored four runs in the 7th inning to extend their lead to 7-1. The Tigers rallied in the seventh inning with three runs but were unable to overcome Pomona-Pitzer's four-run seventh inning surge.
Pomona-Pitzer took an early lead in the second inning when Yuri Song tripled to left center, driving in three runs. By the end of the inning, Pomona-Pitzer led 3-0.
Occidental reduced the deficit in the fifth inning.
Alysha Wagner singled to start the inning and later scored on a single by
Anna Kim. The score was 3-1 in favor of Pomona-Pitzer at the end of the fifth.
In the seventh inning, Pomona-Pitzer extended its lead with four runs, capitalizing on an error and a series of hits. The Tigers responded with a rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Sophia Siu and Kim both reached base, and
Rachel Rotunno and
Kadence Bernard each contributed RBI singles.
Jordan Lebsock added another RBI single, but the rally fell short. The final score was Pomona-Pitzer 7, Occidental 4.
Jacynda Lindsay pitched a complete game over 7 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out two. Kim contributed with a hit and a walk, driving in one run and scoring once. Rotunno matched Kim's performance, also recording a hit, a walk, one RBI, and a run scored. Bernard added to the offense with a hit and an RBI, despite striking out once.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, April 24th when they will host the CMS Athenas at Bell Field at 3:00pm.
