CLAREMONT, Calif. — Occidental (4-29, 1-17 SCIAC) narrowly fell to Claremont-M-S (17-16-1, 8-10 SCIAC) in two closely contested games this weekend at Athena Field. In the first matchup, Occidental lost 5-4, while in the second game, they fell 8-3.
In the first game, Occidental recorded 11 hits, including two doubles and a triple, and both teams scored two runs in the first inning. For the Tigers,
Rachel Rotunno doubled down the right-field line, followed by
Jordan Lebsock walking, and
Sophia Siu singling to shortstop.
Kadence Bernard then delivered a two-RBI single to right field, scoring Rotunno and Lebsock, tying the score at 2-2 after the first inning.Â
However, in the seventh inning,
Alysha Wagner tripled to right field and scored on a single by
Anna Kim. After a series of strategic substitutions, Bernard singled to center field, driving in
Justice Tiberi and tying the game. The Athenas responded by scoring three runs in their half, ultimately securing a 5-4 victory over the Tigers. Final score: Claremont-M-S 5, Occidental 4.
Bernard led the Tigers with three hits and three RBIs, adding a double and a stolen base. Wagner contributed with two hits, including a triple, and scored a run. Kim also recorded two hits and drove in one run.

In the second game, Occidental faced Claremont-M-S in a contest marked by early scoring from the home team. Claremont-M-S took a commanding lead in the first inning, scoring five runs. Occidental responded in the fifth inning when
Alysha Wagner reached on an error and, along with
Anna Kim, scored on a single by
Jordan Lebsock, reducing the deficit to 8-2. They continued to chip away in the sixth inning, with
Sam Palacio scoring on a single by Wagner, narrowing the gap to 8-3. The game concluded with no further scoring, ending with Claremont-M-S securing an 8-3 victory.
Jordan Lebsock drove in two runs, making a significant contribution to the team's scoring in the second game. Wagner added one hit and one RBI, while Kim collected two hits and crossed the plate once.
