CLAREMONT, Calif. — Occidental (3-2-1, 1-0-1) won 1-0 over Pomona-Pitzer (4-3-0, 1-1-0) on Saturday in conference play. Occidental kept Pomona-Pitzer off the board as its goalkeeper was credited with six saves, four of them in the second half. The teams each finished with 10 shots, while Occidental put four attempts on goal and earned six corners. Occidental also generated five shots and three corners during a 10-minute first-half stretch, though the match remained scoreless until its second-half goal.
Occidental generated the first sustained stretch of pressure, taking five shots and earning three corners from 5:07 to 14:47 while keeping the match at 0-0.
Eddie Siladie sent an early attempt left,
Andrew Lee and
Alex Yu followed with shots, and Gavin Honey saved efforts from
Elijah Edelman and
Ethan Carr during the push.
Pomona-Pitzer answered with several attacking actions in the middle of the half, but
Carlos Abram made saves on Enzo Dal Bo in the 29th minute and Jedi Scott in the 40th to keep Occidental even. The closing minutes grew more physical, including multiple Occidental fouls and a yellow card to
Isaac Wright at 42:21, and the half ended scoreless.
Andrew Lee broke the scoreless match in the 55th minute, scoring off a
Charlie Miller assist to give Occidental a 1-0 lead.
Earlier, Abram kept the half level with saves in the 47th and 48th minutes, while Occidental worked through a physical opening stretch that included a yellow card to
Cooper Gersch and fouls by Carr and
Lewis Park. After Lee's goal, Abram made two more saves in the 59th and 60th minutes as Pomona-Pitzer pressed for an answer, and Occidental also generated chances from Edelman and
Gianni Simamora.
Occidental added late pressure with a corner kick in the 83rd minute and shots from Miller and Edelman, then saw out the final minutes to finish the half and match with a 1-0 win.
