CLAREMONT, Calif. — Occidental women's volleyball closed the Pacific Coast Classic with a bang, sweeping Western New England 3-0 and later defeating Carleton 3-1 on Saturday at Voelkel Gymnasium. 

In the match against Western New England, Occidental won the sets with scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-14, while they rebounded from an initial set loss against Carleton to win with scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-22.

Occidental dominated the first match statistically, hitting .207 compared to Western New England's .083, and finishing with advantages of 9-5 in aces and 8-1 in total blocks. The Tigers quickly took control of the opening set against Western New England, scoring six straight points after conceding the first point, highlighted by two kills from Sloane Shoop and a strong service from Anna Curtis-Revelle. Chloe Jeong contributed back-to-back aces during a four-point stretch, helping Occidental secure the set 25-16.

In the second set against Western New England, Occidental faced a tight battle, closing the set at 25-23. After a 21-21 tie, Curtis-Revelle's kill and Jeong's ace helped the Tigers regain the lead. Occidental maintained their momentum in the third set, leveraging Jasmine Shum's aces and Eyleen Sanchez's service to create a 12-6 lead. Corinne Van Haeren's four kills, including two pivotal ones mid-set, helped Occidental finish strong at 25-14.

In the match against Carleton, Occidental struggled in the first set, falling 18-25 despite kills from Curtis-Revelle, Shum, Van Haeren, and Shoop, along with aces from Hermosillo and Jeong. However, the Tigers rallied in the second set, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit to win 25-21, aided by a surge of kills from Shum and Van Haeren.

The third set saw the Tigers turn a narrow 14-13 lead into a commanding 20-13 advantage, with Chloe Jeong serving five consecutive points, including two aces. Even as Carleton closed in at 24-23, the Tigers clinched the set with a Carleton attack error. In the fourth set, after trailing 14-8, Occidental fought back to take a 19-17 lead, thanks to Shum's serving and kills from Van Haeren and Makler. They sealed the match with a final score of 25-22 after Sloane Shoop's kill and Hermosillo's ace.
