REDLANDS, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2007) – The Tigers finished the
first round of head-to-head games in Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on the road today at
Redlands.
The Bulldogs out played the Tigers, handing
Oxy its second consecutive conference loss.
Things were close for the first half as the
teams were tied 1-1 and 3-3 at the end of the first and second
periods respectively. Redlands went on a 7-0 run in the third
quarter, taking a commanding 10-3 advantage entering the final
frame. The Tigers clawed their way back, but came up short as the
scoreboard read 14-8 in favor of the Bulldogs when time expired.
John Wensman, Cameron
Brahmst and Andrew Valdes each scored a
pair of goals for the Tigers today. Valdes and Wensman accounted
for two of the Oxy steals as Valdes recorded the only assist of the
game . Also scoring for Occidental were Adalberto
Vasquez and Austen Oliver.
Brahmst tallied three drawn ejections and
Oliver was credited with a field block for the Tigers defense.
In front of the cage Max
Kelly blocked nine Bulldog shots.
Occidental drops to 12-12; 3-4 in SCIAC play.
The Tigers' season will culminate this weekend at the SCIAC
Championships hosted by the University of Redlands Nov. 9-11. In
the first game Oxy (#5) will meet the fourth seeded Cal Lutheran
University Kingsmen. Earlier this season CLU defeated Oxy 15-12 in
a tightly played game at Taylor Pool.
