After a three-week hiatus, Occidental (2026, 2-24 SCIAC)
returned to action April 13, dropping a pair of SCIAC contests with
Pomona-Pitzer (10-19, 5-11 SCIAC) at Sagehen Field 3-1 &
1-0.
The Tigers put runners on base in every inning except the third but
couldn't come up with the key hit to spark a serious rally in game
one.
Carey Crowell '07 stroked an RBI single to center field in the
fourth to score Teresa Brabant '10, who led off the inning with a
double to right. Ashley Pond '09 doubled to right center in
the Tigers' first at-bat, her fourth hit in the last six games.
Pomona-Pitzer scored twice in the first inning, taking advantage of
two infield errors and a pair of RBI singles by Billie McGrane and
Sadie Barr.
The Sagehens scored an insurance run in the fourth after a
double to right center by Emily Aamodt and a single by leadoff
hitter Leanna Guillermo.
Crowell pitched all six innings, allowing eight hits and one earned
run.
McGrane, who fired a no-hitter Feb. 24 at Occidental, allowed just
one hit in game two. The Tigers put just four runners on base
in the game, wasting another solid outing by Kelli Moriguchi '08,
who gave up five hits, struck out three, and walked one.
Occidental will pay tribute to three seniors (Melyssa Tsai,
Alessandra Farley, and Crowell) between games of a SCIAC
doubleheader with Redlands Saturday, April 14 at Bell Field.
The first pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
