La Verne maintained its SCIAC title hopes with a pair of
decisive victories Saturday, April 21 at muddy Wheeler Park in La
Verne, Calif.
The Leopards, who earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III
post-season in 2006, improved to 19-15, 12-6 SCIAC.
Occidental fell to 2-30, 2-18.
La Verne scored 13 runs in the second inning of game one. The
Leopards sent 16 batters to the plate and collected nine hits,
including a two-out grand slam by Morgan Dobis.
Jodi Lindsay hit a three-run homer in the second inning of game one
and clubbed a grand slam in the fourth inning of game two,
finishing with a combined five hits, four runs scored, and eight
runs batted in.
The Tigers collected one hit in game one, a single by Rebecca
Nashleanas '09 in the second inning, and committed four
errors. Nashleanas and Carey Crowell '07 turned a double play
on a line drive at shortstop in the fourth.
Britt Karp '09 delivered a two-out single to left field to score
Alyssa Escalante '10 in the second inning of game
two.
Occidental will make up the first game of Friday's rescheduled
doubleheader with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (11-22, 7-11) Sunday April
22 at 3pm at Bell Field. Game two is scheduled for Thursday,
April 26 at 5pm.
