Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7, Occidental 4
Occidental turned in a solid defensive effort against
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Sunday, April 22 at Bell Field but couldn't
pull out the win. CMS, currently fifth in the league
standings, improved to 12-22, 8-11 SCIAC. The Tigers slipped
to 2-31, 2-19.
CMS scored three runs in both the second and the third
innings. Amanda Glowacky led off the second with a home run
to left field and went three for four in the game with three runs
scored.
Occidental took advantage of two wild pitches to cut the deficit
to 6-3 in the bottom of the third inning.
Alice Bauer '10 singled to center, moved to second on a wild pitch,
and advanced to third on a throw to the plate that erased Britt
Karp '09. She scored when the 2-2 offering to Ashley Pond '09
ricocheted toward the first base line.
Teresa Brabant '10 stroked a single to left to plate Pond and
Alyssa Escalante '10 tapped a fielders' choice grounder to second
that scored the speedy Melyssa Tsai '07.
Occidental starter Kelli Moriguchi '08 allowed three hits and no
runs over the final three innings. Bauer made an incredible
running catch at the fence in center field to rob Erica
Weingart.
Weingart pitched four innings in relief of Dianna Buckett to record
the win.
Occidental gets another crack at CMS in the second game of the
rescheduled doubleheader Thursday, April 26 at 5pm, the final home
contest of the season.
