ORANGE, Calif. (September 12, 2007) - A night after opening play
in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with
a 3-0 loss to defending SCIAC Champion La Verne, the Tigers were
again shut out. Chapman University handed Oxy a 3-0 loss at the
Hutton Sports Center tonight.
The Panthers outscored the Tigers in straight sets (30-16,
30-17, 30-15).
Senior Sonia Huizar led the offensive charge
with seven kills and freshman Kathryn Bockmon
added five. Huizar recorded a team-high 17 digs in the match as
well. Emily Wagner tallied 13 digs for Oxy.
Occidental's sophomore setter Jaime Nikami
finished with a double-double performance as she tallied 15 assists
and 11 digs.
Chapman's Jill Felger turned in a 19-kill performance, Kat
Kowalski totaled 28 assists and Linda Ly recorded 33 digs, all
match-highs.
The Panthers improved to 2-1 while Occidental drops to 1-3, 0-1
SCIAC on the season.
Oxy will take the court again in a week on Tuesday, Sept. 18
when they travel to play SCIAC opponent Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m.
