LANCASTER, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2008) – Just as they did three
days ago on their home court, the Occidental College Tigers hit the
road to take on West Coast Baptist College for the second time,
walking away with a 3-0 victory to notch their fourth win in five
matches.
Freshman Gwynne Davis led all players with 10
kills while Ginger Grimes took the lead with 13
digs and Jamie Nikami recorded a match-high 28
assists.
Occidental was dominant from the beginning, winning by scores of
25-16, 25-13 and 25-11.
Overall the Tigers hit .431 with an incredible .750 hitting
percentage in the final game of the night.
Ashley Rosenbaum was solid tonight both
offensively and defensively, recording a game, season and career
high eight solo blocks, adding three kills in four attempts.
Oxy players combined for 13 service aces, four coming from Kate
Meyer. Kathryn Bockmon, Nyki Dedic, Nikami and
Grimes each added two while Lisa Fukuzato rounded out the aces.
Dedic, a junior, added three solo blocks and four kills. Bockmon
and Kaitlin McAndrews tallied six kills apiece and
Bockmon added seven digs as well.
Carmen Lopez led the way with seven kills for the Eagles, with
Laura Casillas recording 17 assists for WCBC.
Occidental improves to 5-6 overall this season. The Tigers will
enjoy an off week before returning to SCIAC play when they host the
University of Redlands on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Rush
Gymnasium.
