CLAREMONT, Calif.(Oct. 7, 2008)
– After taking the first game 25-21
from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Occidental College lost their
momentum, dropping the next three games to lose 3-1 on the road in
SCIAC play.
In
the first game the Tigers totaled 12 kills.
Oxy's freshman Gwynne Davis again led all Oxy players with 13 kills and
was second only to Angela Estrella Lemus who finished with 17 kills
for CMS. Fellow Tiger classmate Kaitlin McAndrews
was next in line with
eight kills.
After a strong first game from Oxy coupled
with a slow start from the Athenas, CMS went on to defeat the
Tigers by scores of 25-16, 25-7 and 25-16.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps hit a phenomenal .545
in game two, tallying 20 kills with just three errors, to take
control for the remainder of the match.
Jamie Nikami supplied 17 assists for Oxy
while Ginger Grimes and Kathryn Bockmon
each broke double
figures with 10 and 11 digs, respectively. Bockmon also recorded
three service aces, adding six assists and two kills.
The
Tigers fall to 3-6, 2-5 in SCIAC play and currently sit in sixth
place.
Occidental returns to Rush Gymnasium on
Friday night to host a non-conference match with West Coast Baptist
College at 7:30 p.m.
