LOS
ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2008) – After
a close first game, the Tigers cruised to a 3-0 victory over
Whittier College in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference action tonight at Rush Gymnasium posting scores of
25-23, 25-12, 25-12 for their eighth win of the season.
Occidental was solid in the third game
recording a .375 team attacking percentage as they notched 14 kills
in 32 chances with just two errors.
Gwynne Davis led all players with 10 kills, adding
eight digs and a solo block. Kathryn Bockmon
and Kaitlin
McAndrews were
each effective on offense with seven kills piece. Lisa
Fukuzato and
freshman Lysa Sim each tallied two service aces for Oxy in the
match.
Ginger Grimesrecorded her first double-double of
the season with a match high 30 assists and a team leading 10
digs.
Defensively Bockmon, Fukuzato and
Kate Meyer each
finished with seven digs. Junior Nyki Dedic
had a match-leading two
solo blocks, also recording a block assist for the Tigers who
finished with 7.0 total blocks to the Poets'
1.0.
The
Tigers improve to 8-9 overall, 4-8 in SCIAC while
Whittier falls to 4-20, 1-11.
Occidental will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
(18-11, 8-4) on Tuesday evening in Rush Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
Earlier this season CMS defeated #1 Juniata 3-2 and currently hold
on to third place in the SCIAC standings.
