LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 19, 2008) –
In their second to final home series of the season the Occidental
College Tigers fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by scores of 8-4 and
6-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play
today on Bell Field.
In game one the Tigers scored three runs in
the fourth inning to cut the Athenas' lead in half at 6-3,
but were only able push one more run across the board while
allowing two in the final three innings.
Oxy third baseman Stephanie
Egan drew a walk to lead off the fourth before classmate
Olympia Powell reached on an error.
Lindsay Gross then connected for a two-RBI double.
The next batter, Tanya Milki, also stroked a
double, driving in Gross.
Alyssa Smith singled and
scored the final run of the game for Oxy.
In game two Rebecca
Nashleanas and Gabriela Chavez led off
the game with back-to-back singles, scoring on the third hit of the
inning off the bat of Powell.
CMS pitcher Julia Cruz retired 18 batters in
order following Chavez's hit as Powell was thrown out at
second base, trying to stretch her hit into a double, to end the
first inning. Egan led off the seventh inning
with a single to right field, ending that streak.
Both Nashleanas and Chavez stole a base in the
first inning as well.
The Tigers fall to 3-29, 0-20 in SCIAC play.
Occidental will host the University of La
Verne (20-16, 10-10 SCIAC) for their final home games of 2008 with
a double header beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
