REDLANDS, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2008) –
Conference play didn't start quite the way the Tigers had
hoped for, being swept 3-0 by the University of Redlands in the
first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
action of 2008.
The
first game was the closest of the night at 25-21 before the
Bulldogs posted dominating 25-22 and 25-14 scores in the remaining
two games of the match.
Freshman Allie Brown
led the Tigers with six
kills and classmate Gwynne Davis added five. UR's Jackie Hamilton
led all players with 11 kills.
Sophomore Kathryn Bockmon
finished with nine
assists as Ginger Grimes chipped in four assists while leading Oxy
with six digs. Bockmon had five digs with Ashley
Rosenbaum and Kate Meyer adding four apiece. On the net Brown
and Rosenbaum each collected a solo block as well. Brown also had
three block assists, Davis had a pair.
Nyki Dedic had two service aces for
Oxy.
The
Bulldogs Allison Light and Dory Baga led all players with 21 sets
and 15 digs, respectively.
Occidental falls to 1-2, 0-1 in SCIAC while
Redlands improves to 5-6, 2-0.
The
Tigers will be back on the court on Friday, Sept. 26 when they host
Pomona-Pitzer as the first event in the newly renovated Rush
Gymnasium on the campus of Occidental College. Teams will serve it
up at 7:30 p.m.
