ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2008) – Despite taking a 3-0 lead
to kick things off in the first game at the newly renovated Rush
Gymnasium, Occidental fell in three sets at the hands of
Pomona-Pitzer in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference action tonight before over 300 people.
The
Hens collected 31 kills and 11 service aces to the Tigers' 14
and three, respectively, as they posted scores of 25-10, 25-10, and
25-13.
Pomona-Pitzer's SCIAC Athlete of the
Week, Megan Prior led all players with nine kills. Erin Saliba had
a match high 17 assists for the Hens and as a team PP collected 4.0
total team blocks.
Tops for Oxy came from junior Ashley
Rosembaum and
the freshman duo of Allie Brown and Gwynne Davis
who each finished with
three kills.
Kathryn Bockmon led the way for Oxy with five assists
while adding five digs and accounting for one of the three Tiger
aces.
Defensively Ginger Grimes
tied with
Pomona-Pitzer's Ruchi Patel for a match high nine digs.
Occidental players combined for 3.0 total team blocks.
Occidental falls to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in SCIAC play while
Pomona-Pitzer improves to 11-3, 2-0.
The
Tigers will be back on the court tomorrow night when they travel to
Thousand Oaks to take on the Cal Lutheran Regals at the Gilbert
Arena. Teams will get underway at 6:00 p.m.
