THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2008)
– Coming off a 3-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer in their home opener
on Friday night the Tigers suffered the same result on Saturday
evening at the hands of the # 19 Cal Lutheran Regals who won in
straight sets in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference play.
Cal
Lutheran jumped out with a commanding 25-7 victory in the first
game before sitting the Tigers down 25-11 and hung on to a late run
from Oxy to put the match away with a final game score of
25-21.
The
Tigers looked to freshman Gwynn Davis for a team high five kills, followed
by junior Nyki Dedic who tallied four.
Sophomore Kathryn Bockmon
led the Tigers with both
11 assists and 10 digs while also adding the only Oxy service ace
of the night. Ginger Grimes recorded nine digs on the night for the
Tigers.
Regals sophomore Allison Kerr finished with
a match high nine kills while senior setter Lindsey Benson led all
players with 22 assists and senior Elicia Hildreth was tops with 11
digs.
CLU
finished with 4.0 total team blocks while Oxy had 3.0 total team
blocks.
The
loss drops the Occidental overall record to 1-4, 0-3 in SCIAC play
while Cal Lutheran improves to 10-4, 2-1.
The
Tigers will be back on the court Tuesday, Sept. 30 when they travel
to La Verne to take on the # 3 ranked Leopards at 7:30
p.m.
