LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2009) – With two games
decided by just two points at 25-23 and the third separated by five
at 25-20, Occidental College continues to be competitive in the
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but came
up just short tonight at Rush Gymnasium to the University of La
Verne.
The freshman duo of Kasey Rose and
Logan Boyer-Hayse combined for 21 kills with Rose
leading the pack with 11 and just one error as she hit at a .286
clip for the match. Gwynne Davis finished the
match hitting .294 (seven kills) to lead the pack. Ginger
Grimes tallied 25 of the Tigers' 28 assists in the
game and was responsible for the only Oxy ace fo the game.
Defensively Rose and Kathryn Bockmon recorded
three solo blocks apiece as Occidental combined for 12 blocks.
Bockmon and Boyer-Hayse each recorded 11 digs as well, while
Carin Montelongo reached double figures with 10.
La Verne was led by All-American Crista Jones who recorded 19 of
the Leos' 27 kills on the night.
The Tigers will be back on the court Friday in
a Cal Lutheran Fall Classic double dip with games at 3:00 p.m.
versus Wisconsin Lutheran and 5:00 p.m. against Birmingham
Southern.
