LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 3, 2009) – The results of the
last few matches may not be what the women's volleyball team
hoped for, but the Occidental College Tigers continue to show
significant improvements as they compete with the teams steadily
among the top schools in the Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference. Tonight Oxy earned a 25-22 game one victory
before falling 25-23, 25-12 and 25-11 to Cal Lutheran University at
Rush Gymnasium.
Before a good sized crowd Occidental won the first set tonight
and battled close in the second, eventually falling by the slimmest
of margins. CLU (4-2 SCIAC) used the momentum from game two to hit
.370 and .387 in the final two sets to earn their ninth win of the
season.
As they have done all season, the freshman duo of Logan
Boyer-Hayse and Kasey Rose led the Tigers
with nine kills apiece. Junior Kathryn Bockmon
tallied four as classmate Ginger Grimes recorded
25 assists.
Defensively Carin Montelongo led all players
with 19 digs while Rose finished with 14, Grimes had 13 and Bockmon
notched 12. Bockmon and Ashley Rosenbaum each had
a solo block for the Tigers tonight as well.
The Tigers (8-11, 2-4 SCIAC) will be back on
the court Tuesday evening when they travel to
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to play the Athenas at 7:30 p.m.
