THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2009) – For the last time
of the season, the Occidental College volleyball team was on the
road, in the second to last match of the 2009 Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Cal Lutheran University
was too much for the Tigers, sending Occidental home with a 3-0
loss.
In the first game, despite hitting slightly more accurately than
the Regals (.258 to .256) a trio of rallies to pull within a point
at 8-7, 14-13 and 20-21, CLU took a lead on an ace en route to a
25-21 victory.
The second set was close again in the early going behind a .667
kill percentage by Gwynne Davis who recorded five
kills and an error on six attempts as the Tigers charged to within
one point at 17-16. Unfortunately for the black and orange, the
Regals went on a 6-0 run to close out the set after trading points
for the 25-18 win.
Cal Lutheran took an early 9-3 lead and this time Occidental
could not pulled within closer than three the remainder of the set
in which they fell 25-16.
Kasey Rose recorded team-highs of 17 digs and
nine kills, sharing the honor with Logan
Boyer-Hayse who had nine kills as well. Kathryn
Bockmon also finished with double figures in digs with 15.
Ana Kurnizki and Ashley Rosenbaum
had three and two block assists, respectively.
Occidental (14-15, 5-8 SCIAC) returns to Rush
Gymnasium for the final match of 2009 on Tuesday evening as they
host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (14-14, 6-7) Athenas at 7:30 p.m.
