CLAREMONT, Calif. (April 24, 2009) - Occidental softball dropped
a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
games to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (26-10, 15-7 SCIAC) on the road,
8-0 and 7-3.
Oxy was shut-out in the first game, a five inning affair and
clawed back from a 5-0 deficit in game two to plate three runs in
the fourth and fifth innings, combined, but that was all they would
get on the day.
Gabriela Chavez was 2-for-3 with a walk and run
scored and Tasha Serna-Gallegos and
Rebecca Nashleanas collected two hits apiece, as
well. Alyssa Escalante doubled in the fifth as the
only extra-base hit of the game for Oxy and scored one of the three
runs in the game.
The Tigers are 13-22 overall with a 2-20 SCIAC mark entering the
final day of the 2009 season. Oxy will host the University of La
Verne (26-12, 15-7) who sit tied for second in the league
standings.
Teams will take the field at 12:00 p.m. for game one of the
double-header.
