LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 23, 2010) – The Occidental softball team split a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games to Cal Lutheran University on the road today. They won the first game 3-1 and were shut out the second game, 4-0.
In game one, Oxy trailed Cal Lutheran 1-0 until the sixth inning when they broke the game wide open. Julia Nicholson got things going with a double to left field. Up next, Alyssa Escalante reached base via a walk. Gabriela Chavez then advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. With runners in scoring position, Alyssa Smith doubled down the left filed line, sending both runners across home plate. Next up, Ashley Noone doubled to center field, sending Smith into score and giving Oxy the lead and eventually the win 3-1.
Game two was a different story altogether. The Tigers were unable to get anything going allgame and fell to Cal Lutheran 4-0.
The Tigers are 8-23 overall with a 5-18 SCIAC mark entering the final day of the 2010 season. Oxy will travel to the University of La Verne tomorrow, Saturday, April 24 for a double header starting at noon.
