LOS ANGELES — Stephanie Gann (Tacoma, Wash.) led the Tigers with a season-high 15 kills and was in on four of Oxy's 10 blocks, but the nation's leading setter was on her game and the Panthers hitters seemed like they couldn't miss in a 3-1 win over the Occidental College women's volleyball team at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday, 25-20, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18.

Gann, who hit .346 on the match, had four of her kills and a solo block during a 12-3 run that put Oxy (15-7, 8-6 SCIAC) in front of the Panthers (18-5, 11-1 SCIAC) 21-12 in their third-set win.

It was short-lived success and Oxy couldn't match Chapman's attack. Corrine Ostrovsky, who came into the match leading the nation with 11.48 assists per set, dished out 55 more.

It was hard to tell if she was that good or if the Panthers hitters were that sharp. Val Geiger led the match with 18 kills on .500 hitting, Kate Ferrin was just behind her with 17 at .500 and Ashleigh Gideon had 16 and hit .314.

Everything that Ostrovsky set seemed to have the perfect height, speed and timing. At one point in Game 2, she even scored a point without touching the ball. Geiger fell to her knees to dig an Oxy attack, but couldn't control it and her desperate play appeared as if it would be an overpass, headed for the Tigers' side of the net. Ostrovsky then jumped as if she was going to attack it from just in front of the net, freezing the Tigers defense, then pulled back at the last moment and watched it drop for a point with a smirk on her face.

Aly Fritz (South Pasadena) and Dana Michels (Kirkland, Wash.) both had very efficient nights for the Tigers. Fritz totaled nine kills with no errors on 13 attempts and Michels was 7 for 10 with no errors and three block assists.

Madyson Cassidy (Arcadia) led the Tigers with 15 digs and Jessie Altman (La Jolla) had 32 assists.

Oxy's Megan Olayinka (Corvallis, Ore.) had four blocks off of the bench.

Oxy opens a four-match non-conference stretch on Friday, hosting Cal State San Marcos at 6 p.m. in Rush Gymnasium.

The Panthers, which lead No. 8 Cal Lutheran (19-4, 10-1 SCIAC) for first place by a half game in the SCIAC standings, hosts UC Santa Cruz and Caltech in a doubleheader in Orange on Saturday.
