Game 1: La Verne 5, Occidental 1

LA VERNEMeghan Luera (Pasadena) singled in Jerika Barron (Half Moon Bay) in the first inning to give the Occidental College softball team a 1-0 lead, but a pair of errors led to a four-run third and Oxy couldn't make it three wins in a row, losing at La Verne 5-1 on Sunday.

La Verne's Amanda Hastings and Tara Allis took advantage of the extra outs. Hastings singled in Dee Dee Burns, then Allis hit a two-run home run that put ULV up 4-1. Candice Nunez drove in Daryn Schively to give the Leopards another run in the fourth.

Oxy on the other hand struggled offensively after scoring the game's first run. The Tigers (3-7, 2-4 SCIAC) had three of their four hits in the first inning. Kristine Kocjan (Redwood City) had Oxy's only other knock, a single in the top of the fourth through the left side of the Leopards (8-1, 5-1 SCIAC) infield.

Oxy starter Brittany Vacura (Elk Grove) gave up just one earned run in six innings pitched, but fell to 2-3 on the season with the loss. Vacura's earned run averaged is just 2.47 in five games this season.

Breanna De La Rosa went the distance for ULV, earning the win.
