LOS ANGELES - Patricia Phillimeano (Roseville) hit the first homerun of the season for Occidental College softball team, but it wasn't enough to lead the Tigers to a victory as they lost both games of their Saturday afternoon doubleheader against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
With the Athenas up 6-0 in the second inning of game 1, Phillimeano smacked a no-doubter to deep center field that also brought home Kristine Kocjan (Redwood City) for the team's first home run of the season. The Tigers looked to keep the rally going with a couple of hard-hit line drives, but each time the ball found the mitt of the CMS left fielder Kendall Kritzik.
Seven of Oxy starters got a hit and the team hit .333 for the game, but CMS bats never let off either as they scored in every inning. Oxy lost the game 14-2 in 5 innings.
In game 2, Brittany Vacura (Elk Grove) put in solid five innings of work as she kept the Tigers in the game until the late innings, but Oxy bats were again held in check as they dropped the game, 10-1.
Ashley Noone (Orange) anchored the Tigers offense, going 3 for 3 with an RBI.
The red-hot CMS offense was led by Emily Lopez, who went 4 for 6 with two homeruns, 4 runs scored, and 4 RBI for the day.
