Stephanie Gann led Oxy
with 12 kills and 13 digs.

LOS ANGELESStephanie Gann (Tacoma, Wash.) had a match-high 12 kills and 13 digs, Alyssa Mort (Tucson, Ariz.) and Kasey Rose (Los Olivos) each added 10 kills and the Occidental College women's volleyball team swept Pomona-Pitzer at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-20, 25-18.

The Tigers dominated throughout.

Aside from a brief stretch at the beginning of Game 2, Oxy (10-3, 3-2 SCIAC) never trailed in the match. Pomona-Pitzer held a one or two-point lead until their last advantage at 7-6 in the second set, then Gann put away consecutive kills to give Oxy the lead, 8-7.

Behind Gann's hitting, the Tigers cruised. The junior, who's played the outside hitter, middle and opposite positions this year, had four kills in each set and hit .333 on the match.

The Tigers jumped out to leads of 20-9, 18-13 and 18-7 in Games 1-3, respectively.

The second set was the most competitive. The Sagehens (7-7, 2-4 SCIAC) scored three unanswered to cut Oxy's lead to 23-20. But then Gann and Rose put away back-to-back kills to end the game.

The Tigers were much more fundamentally sound than they were in a 3-1 loss to Cal Lutheran on Saturday, particularly with their serving. Dana Michels (Kirkland, Wash.) led with three aces and Oxy as a team had nine aces to eight service errors, a much better showing than the 2-10 ratio it had against the Regals.

"The best thing we did tonight and what was our main focus, was serving aggressively," Occidental coach Heather Collins said. "That is what we lacked the most in our last match, that was No. 1 on our game plan tonight and we executed."

Oxy freshman setter Sarah Beene (Gilbert, Ariz.) showed some awareness and attacking ability by finishing a handful of overpasses and dump shots for eight kills on 11 attempts.

Oxy's Jessie Altman (La Jolla) led the game with 19 assists and libero Madyson Cassidy (Arcadia) had 12 digs and a pair of aces

The Tigers played all 13 suited players. Hana Hunt (Newport Beach) had three digs off of the bench in the third set.

Oxy AVCA First Team All-American Logan Boyer-Hayse (Boulder, Colo.) missed the match with an injury.

Michelle Schultz led Pomona-Pitzer with six kills.

The Tigers have a doubleheader at Rush on Saturday, starting with La Verne at 11 a.m. and then Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 5 p.m.
