THOUSAND OAKS — The Occidental College softball team split its Saturday doubleheader at Cal Lutheran, losing to the Regals 7-3 in Game 1 and winning 8-7 in nine innings in Game 2.
In Game 2, Patricia Phillimeano (Roseville) singled in the top of the ninth, advanced to second base on a ground out and then scored on an error by Cal Lu's Kelly Lockwood, giving the Tigers a one-run lead headed into the bottom half. Then Ali Goldberg (Los Altos), who gave up three runs in the eighth, worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve the victory for the Tigers (7-9, 2-6 SCIAC).
Jerika Barron (Half Moon Bay), who went 6 for 10 with two runs and an RBI on the day for Oxy, hit the grounder to short that got away from Lockwood to score Phillimeano.
