Players of the Match: Occidental opposite Megan Olayinka hit .571 with 4 kills and no errors, and setter Sarah Beene contributed with 6 assists, but it wasn't enough as Oxy dropped their home opener 3-0.

La Verne outside hitter Brittany Yaxley led the Leopards with 16 kills and 9 service aces, leading her team to a 2-0 start in SCIAC play.

Turning Point: Oxy entered Game 3 with more urgency than the previous sets and hung tight with the Leopards until halfway through the set, but back to back kills from La Verne's Brittany Yaxley and Hope Allen sealed the Tigers' fate.

Play of the Match: Tied 3-3 in the third set, Amanda Herold and Megan Olayinka came up big with a block off an attack from La Verne's Brittany Yaxley. The Tigers fought hard in the final set of the match but it wasn't enough to stop the Leopards' offensive power.

Stat of the Match: The Tigers hit just .080 in Game 1 and .053 in Game 2.

From the Coach: "It was a rough day for us. We started slow and that's something you can't do against a good team," said Oxy head coach Heather Collins. "We'll put this game behind us for now and place our focus on tomorrow's game."

Season Impact: Dropping their first home match 3-0 isn't how the Tigers wanted to start off SCIAC play, but they have a chance to rebound tomorrow against the struggling Poets before returning home next Tuesday to face a tough Cal Lutheran team.

Next Match: The Tigers continue SCIAC play against the Whittier College Poets tomorrow, Sept. 20 at 6PM.
