Box Score 2 ORANGE — Dallas Boyce hit a three-run homer and Alex Battest drove in two, as the Oxy softball team exploded for a five-run second inning on the way to a 11-9 victory over Chapman University in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Oxy improves its record to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC play. The Panthers are now 3-4 and 2-3.
Battest got the scoring started with a two-RBI single with the bases loaded that brought in Mariah Montgomery and Mackensie Priley to put Oxy up 4-1. Battest finished the game with three hits, one double, and two runs scored.
Two batters later, Boyce left the yard scoring Battest and Samantha Yee giving the Tigers a six-run lead. Boyce lead the Tigers on the field and at the plate going 2 for 3 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and seven innings pitched with seven strikeouts.
After totalling only two hits in the first game of the doubleheader, the Tigers woke up at the plate recording 14 hits in the win.
The Panthers stormed back twice, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second off of back-to-back doubles from Kristen Weiser and Lisa Perez, and rallied late scoring two in the bottom of the sixth, but got closer to catching the Tigers.
Dallas Gunny added an insurance run in the top of the sixth with an infield single that scored Boyce to extend Oxy's lead, 11-7.
Morgan Giusti, Olivia Thayer, and Montgomery each added a RBI of their own, and Priley went 3 for 4 with a double and run scored.
From the Coach: "We adjusted really well at the plate that second game and were able to get ahead of the count," said heach coach Ali Haehnel. "Dallas did really well in pressure situations and got better as the game went on. She's hitting her spots and continuing to improve every game."
