Box Score LOS ANGELES — Claire Strohm finished with nine kills and seven digs, but All-Americans Brittany Yaxley and Kelsi Robinson were too much to handle, leading La Verne past the Occidental women's volleyball team 3-0 at Rush Gymnasium on Friday night.
Set Scores: 25-17, 25-17, 25-18.
Yaxley had a game-high 16 kills on .406 hitting, while Robinson added nine kills and hit .750.
La Verne got its edge from some excellent blocking at the net. Robinson led the way with eight block assists and the Leopards toatled 11 blocks as a group.
Season Impact: Oxy falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC play. La Verne improves to 8-2 and 4-1.

Cassandra Guidice had all three of her kills in the first set, but the Tigers hit .083 as a group.

Strohm, a sophomore who's leading the Tigers in attacking, was at her best in the second, recording four kills and three digs , but it wasn't enough.
Game 3: La Verne 25, Occidental 18
Oxy was competitive until about midway through the set when the Leopards went on an 8-0 run to go up 18-10 and take control of the set.
Next Match: The Tigers return to action on Saturday playing at Whittier at 6 p.m.
