LOS ANGELES — Mackensie Priley finished with three RBIs, Bailey Stevens added two, and the Occidental softball team rode a hot start to grab their second SCIAC win of the season, beating Chapman 7-2 Saturday afternoon.

Priley and Stevens lead a youthful Tigers team that feature 17 underclassmen on the roster.

From the Coach: "Mack has been very strong at the plate for us this year. Alexis did great for us today coming through when we needed her," said head coach Ali Haehnel. "Our young players are getting great experience and getting better with every game."

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.

Chapman drops to 4-6 and 1-5.

Samantha Yee made the defensive play of the game in the top of the third inning, fielding a hard ground ball up the middle and firing a throw to catcher Cora Roberts. Roberts blocked the plate to tag out Gabrielle Leveratto on the run-saving play.

Roberts was also effective offensively for the Tigers, finishing with a triple and run scored.

Alexis Funaki was dominant in the circle for Oxy, allowing only two late runs in 6.1 innings of work. The first year struck out three and allowed nine hits. 

Stephanie Stamnes added the Tigers' other RBI and center fielder Natalie Glover finished with two hits.

Alex Battest recorded Oxy's lone RBI of the day on a sacrifice fly ball to score Priley in the first inning. Battest currently leads the SCIAC with a .500 batting average.

Dallas Boyce got the start in the circle for the Tigers, striking out four and allowing two earned runs in six innings of work, taking the loss. Natalie Both got the win for the Panthers.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action tomorrow against Milwaukee Engineering. Game times are set for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
