LAIE, HAWAII — Olivia Thayer looked good through three innings and the Occidental softball team was going toe-to-toe with NCAA Division II BYU-Hawaii in the first game of a four-game swing on Oahu this week.

But the Tigers had a bumpy fourth inning and eventually lost 7-0 on Monday.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 5-8 on the season.

BYU-Hawaii improves to 4-12.

The Tigers were trailing 1-0 when the Seasiders rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kalynn Latu got away with a bunt single that appeared to contact her in fair ground and then Tiffany Smith followed it up with a bases clearing triple two batters later.

Instead of being out of the inning with just a 2-0 deficit, Oxy had fallen behind by five and BYU-Hawaii was well in control of the game.

Thayer had 1-2-3 innings in the first and third, and gave up just two hits and a run in the second. She finished with 3.1 innings in the circle with three earned runs charged against her.

The Tigers struggled to get anything going offensively against Meghan Wantz. They struck out just twice all game, but their contact often wasn't square or hard enough to find holes in BYU-Hawaii's defense.

Alex Battest had the best day for the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. She's hitting .333 on the season.

Bailey Stevens got the Tigers only other hit.

Wantz pitched all seven innings and allowed just five Oxy players to reach first.

Latue finished 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored for the Seasiders. 

Next Game: The Tigers and Seasiders play the second game of their doubleheader at 3 p.m. HST on Saturday.

Oxy faces Hawaii Pacific in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
