ORANGE — Bailey Stevens went 4 for 7 with two home runs and four RBIs as the Occidental softball team split a doubleheader at Chapman on Friday.

Cora Roberts also had a big day, going 4 for 6 with a run scored, four RBIs and a double, and Mackensie Priley was 3 for 4 with a triple, four runs and two RBIs for Oxy.

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 10-20 overall and 6-12 in SCIAC play. Oxy is still very much in contention for the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament, trailing fourth-place Whittier (6-10 SCIAC) by two losses.

Chapman goes to 10-14 and 4-10.

Game 1: Chapman 11, Occidental 6

The Tigers looked rusty in the field, committing four errors in a losing effort.

Oxy did swing the bat well, with 10 hits and at least one run in five of the seven innings.

Madison Romero started the game for the Tigers and was charged with the loss. 

Chapman created separation with four runs in the first inning and added five insurance runs in the sixth after Oxy cut the lead to 6-5.

Stevens hit her first homer of the day in second inning and had a RBI-double in the top of the seventh.

Game 2: Occidental 11, Chapman 1 (5 innings)

Alexis Funaki was outstanding in the circle for Oxy in Game 2, giving up just one run, two hits and a walk in five innings pitched, earning the victory.

Battest and Stevens both homered during a seven-run third inning that put the game well out of reach.

Dallas Gunny robbed a home run early in the game, sprinting back to the fence to snag a homer from Lisa Perez.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Oxy with a doubleheader against Redlands on Saturday.
