Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES - Madison Romero went the distance in the circle, Alex Battest added to her team-leading 28 hits, but the Tigers couldn't gain enough offensive momentum dropping two games to first place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday afternoon at Bell Field.
Season Impact: Oxy drops to 7-19 overall and 3-11 in the SCIAC.
CMS improves to 22-5-1 and 15-1.
Game 1: CMS 6, Occidental 0
The Tigers hung close with the Athenas for the first half of the game, keeping it even at 0-0 heading into the fourth inning. But RBIs by Briana Halle and Carlene Roberts combined with an Oxy error gave CMS the 3-0 lead.
Romero did her part, striking out three and allowing just two earned runs in her start.
Battest and Dallas Boyce each added a hit.
Roberts led CMS with two hits and two RBIs.
Game 2: CMS 6, Occidental 0
The Tigers offensive struggles carried over to game two, where they were only able to total two hits.
Battest came through with another single, and senior pinch hitter Morgan Giusti came through with a hard shot to right center for a single.
Boyce struck out one in her start and Alexis Funaki put in five innings of relief, striking out two.
Next Game: The Tigers head to Pomona-Pitzer next Saturday to play the Sagehens in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
