LOS ANGELES — Morgan Giusti hit a two-run bomb on Senior Day.

But the Tigers couldn't stop Whittier's bats, dropping two game to the Poets, Friday afternoon.

Senior Day: The Tigers honored seniors Mariah Montgomery and Giusti playing in their final home games of their Oxy career with a pregame ceremony.

Game 1: Whittier 14, Occidental 2

Giusti put a stamp on her Oxy career in game one, hitting a towering two-run home run over the center field fence. After battling to a full count and fouling off two pitches, Giusti left no question about where the eighth pitch of the at bat was heading, crushing the ball to bring home Cora Roberts.

The Poets hurt the Tigers with a big fourth inning, scoring six runs off four hits. The Poets were led by Sarah Crawford who finished the game with seven RBIs including a grand slam.

The Tigers made contact consistently but couldn't find enough gaps in the Poets' defense. Alexis Funaki doubled in the bottom of the sixth, and Madison Romero and Roberts each got on base with a single.

Funaki struck out three batters in her start, putting in 4.1 innings of work. Olivia Thayer and Kaitlin Cappetto pitched the final innings in relief.

Game 2: Whittier 13, Occidental 0

The Poets jumped on the Tigers early scoring two runs in the first inning and five in the second, and the Tigers couldn't connect at the plate.

Romero got the start in the circle for the Tigers and tried to help her own cause with a hard hit double to left field in the second. Montgomery came up to the plate next, reaching first with an infield single and moving Romero to third. But Poet pitcher Samantha Blum struck out Samantha Yee to end the threat.

Mackensie Priley and Alex Battest each added a hit for the Tigers.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 10-28 and 6-20 in the SCIAC.

Whittier improves to 19-19 and 11-15.

Next Game: Oxy plays their final two games of the season tomorrow at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
