CLAREMONT — Cora Roberts and Natalie Glover both doubled but the Occidental softball team couldn't overcome a strong pitching performance from the Athenas, dropping two games to second place Claremont-Mudd Scripps on the final day of the season.

Final Record: The Tigers finish the season 10-30 overall and 6-22 in the SCIAC.

Game 1: Claremont Mudd Scripps 8, Occidental 0

Athena pitcher Anna Gurr threw a gem of a game against the Tigers, allowing just one hit. Gurr, one of the top pitchers in the conference, is tied for first in the SCIAC with 17 wins.

Mackensie Priley was the only Tigers able to sneak a hit in during the game with an infield single in the top of the fourth. 

Olivia Thayer got the start in the circle for Oxy giving up five hits. Madison Romero pitched the final two innings for the Tigers.

Game 2: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3, Occidental 1

Alexis Funaki had a solid start for the Tigers in game two of the double header. The first year struck out three and walked one in six innings of work. 

Funaki did her part at the plate too, giving the Tigers their lone RBI and a one run lead in the top of the third. After Glover got on base with a double to right center to start the inning, Priley got on base with an infield single moving Glover to third. 

Funaki came up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly to score Glover.

The Athenas took the lead in the fifth with a double by Katie Savard that scored two. CMS extended their lead after the Tigers committed a throwing error that let one run cross the plate. 

Oxy could only get on base one more time the rest of the game with a single by Alex Battest in the sixth. 

Roberts finished the game with two hits including a double in the second.
