CLAREMONT — Alex Battest homered twice as the Occidental softball team made it back-to-back wins at Pomona-Pitzer with a 7-5 victory in Game 2 on Saturday.

Oxy won Game 1, 6-5 in extra innings

Battest, Oxy's best hitter this season with a .350 average entering Saturday, left the yard with a two-run shot in the top of the first inning and again in the fourth. Her second homer helped Oxy erase a 5-3 deficit as part of a three-run inning.

Oxy's Alexis Funaki pitched 5.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and two walks, earning the victory. She also had a big day in the batter's, going 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

The Sagehens threatened in the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third, but Funaki got Susanne Boden to ground out to short to end the game.

Most of Oxy's lineup had a big day at the plate. Mackensie Priley was 1 for 2, Cora Roberts was 2 for 4, Madison Romero was 2 for 4 and Bailey Stevens went 2 for 3. 

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 9-19 overall and 5-11 in SCIAC play.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 7-19 and 4-10.
